@johncave Almost certainly... and may a bit of polish added to that demo as well. Now I'm tempted to make a library for it just purely out of curiosity just to see how far I can push it 😆

    A roland rack thing that kind of looks like those fancy high tech cd players they had in cars lol
Hahaha it really does 🤣

    Yeah thats the last rack unit Roland ever made, basically every single SR and XV expansion for the JV and XV synths. Instead of individual expansion cards, they put them all into one unit. Its basically a giant rompler on steroids. You can even upload Roland compatible waveforms into it (I have all the original 303, 808, 909 and D50 waveforms loaded into it atm). It's pretty insane and my most used rack next to the Motif. If you've ever used Zenology, its basically that in hardware.

    Was this the one you were talking about? Ive owned a few dedicated sampler in my days but never a Roland sampler. The XV5080 I owned was the closest, it wasnt a tradition sampler in that you could record into and edit/chop things but you could load sample into it like the Blofeld and it sounded really nice. Thats always something Roland got right, all their boxes sounded great.

    Yaa I've seem em. So many new emulators popping up recently. Definitely going to try a few of them when I get my mac. I know I don't have the processing power right now after I tried some of the usual suspects things a few months ago.

    Genuinely excited to give them a go.

    Elektron boxes are the shitttttt. Always thought they seemed like hipster nonsense but god I love my analog rytm and I love talking about how much I love it. Seems like a drum machine but it's really an entire groovebox. If you find some single cycle waveform samples and load them into each sample slot set to loop mode you can effectively have 12 simultaneous oscillators... on top of the native dual VCO mode you can set some channels to (which can give you some killer detuned analog trance leads!!). Did I mention a multimode analog filter per channel (so 12 of them!!! AND they sound bloody gorgeous). I'd feel like such a chud having a studio full of only elektron boxes, but fuck I get it. And I've never heard a better overdrive/drive algorithm in my LIFE (SO CRUNCHY!!).
You dont have to tell me... Im a goovebox producer till I die lol. I LOVE grooveboxes and drum machines. Thats what I learned on so Ive always had a soft spot for them. Never pulled the trigger on Elektron though, the only thing I own from them is a usb hub lol, rock solid I must say haha

    Someday when I have infinite time and money I'll pull the trigger, might have to set up a session with you so you can show the ropes 🤣

    General Discussion

    Not sure if you're familiar with No-ID (he's a producer that has worked with Kanye and JayZ) but these two vids are an awesome look not only into his studio (which borders of insanity😆), but his approach to sessions with his co-producer Jimmy Douglas. We all have different approaches to mixing , but there's something I really liked that Jimmy mentions in at 7:40 which is his approach to mixing which I found really interesting, or as he calls it "addition, not subtraction". He focuses on creating headroom so increase loudness, which seems obvious enough but is something we sometimes lose track of. I tend to go the opposite direction because I tend to start with really dense mixes and I find I have to pull back or remove elements in a mix to create more space, and I think a lot of how we mix is dictated by genre and what sounds right to us. Interesting nevertheless.

    Definitely a commitment  😆 but honestly its arbitrary at this point. Trends seem to have some affect on release lengths but in the end it just boils down to how you feel and what serves the track.

    @samuraitracks Not as much as you might think actually! 😆

    Ive set up and managed almost every kind of forum under the sun, but these modern node based forums require a continuous sysadmin and websockets, so they have different hosting requirements. I think I might have found a provider that can handle what I need,  just have to verify a few things first.

    If all goes well, I wont do a full site move, just the forum and I'll set it up as a sub-domain, most likely latentforms.aymat.org

    @johncave ok that works! So what I'll do is just master the original mixes you sent to me for both tracks. The one that I have for SBM is called "Song_for_aymat.aiff", just need to verify that is the mix and not master for SBM. Ive downloaded the mix for RD. Let me know and I can get started mastering both today 👍

    Hi John,

    For EPs I have to make sure the masters are consistent in volume/energy/etc. Two different masters wont work and I'm specific about mastering for releases on the label because I need them to be consistent with every release. The mastering I'll always handle for this reason. I'm happy to mix/master both and release them as an EP, but if you want to keep your master as is for Raison d'etre, then lets just release Shoot By Mistake as a single release on LF the way it is now, and then you can release both as an EP on your Bandcamp, that way you have two releases doing work. If that works for you let me know. Feel free to schedule any time! 👍

    @aymat

    Hi Joel, created this as my updates were starting to look messy/cause spam in the Release Schedule and Article Interview channel, and I want to summarise everything here to make it easier for you once you come to read my messages. (Since I'm not sure how to delete them).

    1. Your original master for Shoot By Mistake has grown on me a lot.

    2. I'm steadily working through answering all the interview questions. I've done about 8 so far, so I'll be done with those later today, and follow up here with a link to that (+the accompanying images you wanted).

    3. I've been making a second track for the release through the week. It is now fully mastered and is 5 minutes and 37 seconds.

    I've thought of a name: 'Raison d'etre'.

    I'd like it to come before Shoot By Mistake in a mini LP release containing both tracks. If there's any reason you can't do that, it's okay. You can just upload Shoot By Mistake on its own and I can upload Raison d'etre on my own bandcamp.

    Here's the Drive link for Raison d'etre so you can download/listen: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17ICbG-QyJWXydpsTQK9pXi2imL1UjS04/view?usp=sharing

    Apologies again for spamming the last channel!! Hope everything is going smoothly for you now

    @johncave

    Ha! I should have read this post before replying to your other one 🤣

    Ok awesome! We can release both as an EP, that works out great actually. What I need now is just what I mentioned earlier, do you want me to do the masters for both or mix/master both tracks. If you want to keep the mix I made for Shoot By Mistake, all I would need from you is the stems from Raison d'etre, that way can keep the mixes sounding cohesive. Or youd rather keep your mixes as is, I can simply master both tracks but there might be some back and forth depending on how theyre mixed. Either way works for me, just let me know what youd like to do. 👍

    @johncave

    Hi John!

    The new track is great and would work as an EP for sure.

    So lets get a plan of action going so we can figure out what we'll be doing. First, do you want to release these as an EP or as singles? Second, Would you rather have me master your completed mixes or mix/master both tracks?

    Lets start there first because then prioritize scheduling and preparation. Let me know as soon as you can because I plan working specifically on your release today and tomorrow so I can have it ready for release next week. And if you have time and want to jump on a quick call just let me know. Thanks! - J

    @izlo @numaphlex @johncave @midge-f @samuraitracks

    Just a quick status update, the migration is going well but I need to put a hold on it. All three sections, site/shop/forum, are complete now and running locally on my computer but I ran into a snag with the forum, specifically with the platform I migrated to. Initially it was going to use Discourse, but decided to use NodeBB instead. All the content is fully transferred over and the forum has been styled but the issue is my host currently does not support the latest version of Node.js which is needed to run the version of NodeBB I'm currently using. The only option I have is to move the forum to a VPS, which I'm not completely against, but need to do some research first to see which provider would work best.

    So for now, pause on the migration and I'll be focusing on the releases. Will keep you posted! - J
