Hope you're well and mixing/mastering my track isn't causing you too much of a headache!
I have a random question about your hardware.
I started trying to master one of my tracks with the Izotope Ozone suite as you recommended, but, even with all tracks bounced, I run into ram issues / I think some disk swapping which is causing stutters/crackles even on the highest sample rate I can have my DAW at.
I'm just wondering, what are your pc specs? And what do you do to overcome CPU/Ram issues in final production stages. I'm starting to master/finish some mixes of some songs for my album and the process is excruciating. (I'm on a 2018 macbook pro with an i7 and 16gb ram).

John! Sorry for the radio silence! I've been insanely busy getting the shop ready to launch at the end of the month so I've had to put a hold on mixing. The good thing is, I have some freebies coming down the pipeline for everyone and I also finished a plugin I started writing during the pandemic which I will eventually sell in the shop once I get the licensing /registration side built out.
To answer your question, I recently updated my system. My old system I bought during the pandemic so it was long on the tooth but still worked pretty well. New system is still a Windows desktop build, but its pretty beefy since I use it for dev work and video editing so processing power is the biggest thing for me. I run an AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 12-Core Processor with 32GB of Ram with an SSD drive.
Most newer applications are optimized to run on newer systems/specs so yeah they can sometime be cpu hogs if your system is older, especially the iZotope stuff. My solution for that on my old system was to bounce everything first if my CPU started to take a hit. I always bounced my mixes first and ran a separate project for mastering only with Ozone and nothing else. I still do that out of habit. If you're getting weird stutters/crackles, bounce out your mix, load it into a new project and only run one instance of Ozone. Set your buffer settings to the highest it can be set to and see if that helps. The key here too is try not to load too many modules in Ozone, use them sparingly and only to adjust minor things. If you find yourself adding a ton of modules to fix things, go back to the original project and make the edits there first. Also treat mastering as minor tweaking and not for fixing things.
The other thing too is that your system may not be able to handle newer versions of Ozone. You can always run an older version, that isnt as cpu intensive because honestly Ozone pretty much does the same thing from one version to the next, its just they add newer modules but as far as "sound" youll never notice a difference and you can still use older versions to accomplish the same thing.
By the way, I'll be jumping on the track you sent this weekend. If you have time, I have everything set up to do a live call with shared screen and maybe we can walk through it together if you want. If you can, go ahead and schedule a meeting and we'll make it happen! - J

I appreciate the insight into your specs. I have been bouncing everything out for mastering and I've been at like 20,000khz sample rate but still getting some lag. Ozone must be optimised like balls for my hardware (but I was also spamming modules since I don't have a clue what I'm doing just yet lol). Good news is I'm getting the waves platinum bundle soon since it's at a massive discount, so I'll see if any of those tools get the job done better for mastering.
I'll schedule a call later, probably for monday next week or something if that's okay. I very recently realized I've been mixing things too dull since I had some misconceptions about what my master frequency curve should look like at 1.5db/oct. My recent mixes sound less dull/muddy but GOD! the one I sent you is dull as hell, thanks for fixing it up.
