in italy we had a platform called forumfree (which was used, many years ago, by foreign people as well). you just sign up for free and create a forum for free. unfortunately, nowadays forums are out of fashion, everything has to be done on socials or chats or whatever

colog: no worries about the stems; yesterday i recreated the bass progression and the two harps, don't need anything else really besides the vocal sample which i can rip (i searched the words online, it seems to come from evangelion if i haven't already forgotten). again, can't promise i'm going to make the track, but it certainly gave me inspiration
nice bass and arps, very well done. it gets a bit too harsh for me to call it trance, the bass is like handsup/happy hardcore but who cares about naming. reminded me of early '00 with the arps and the pads, well done 
maybe a bit too short? next time perhaps try to add more to that intro and an ending/outro. but i guess it's really good, i dont know how much experience u have making music but i enjoyed it

recently, i've made in just a couple of days three tracks that i'm quite happy with (link at the bottom, don't want to advertise, just want to genuinely share my thoughts)
one is a goa trance tune, something i've wanted to make for almost two decades. the other two are techno/house/trance, don't really know how to categorise them. i now wanted to talk a bit about the "process", and explain what i feel Aymat had shared that is completely right: something i had known for a long time but i could never express quite rightly or understand completely (i still don't of course!) i will refer to the pdf he shared with us, quoting some parts (in bold)
the last two tracks i made are two different versions of the same one. without going into the details, let me explain what happened with the second mix: grey district (suburb mix), if you are curious. (a big factor i'm not going to talk about: i was in quite a happy mood because i had made the other track and everybody liked it; plus it's the last days before september so free time is running short, got to take advantage of dead hours.)
i felt the first track idea had potential for another version, another mix, or something in the same style. so, logically, i spent the whole morning forcing myself to make it in the same style. i wasn't having fun, as all the melodies or rhythms i could find didn't really fit. i changed the melody many times, never quite happy with the results. after having lunch, i came back and said "ok, screw this, i'm just going to roll with what i have, since i know this has potential". i completely removed the melody, messed around with automation in one go, and in less than two hours i had one of the best tracks i had made. so, what happened? i say this: And the moment I stopped treating every unfinished idea as an obligation, something clicked.
i was just having fun. the rhythm was infectious, so i told myself: "wait, this still feels like a proper mix; it's not exactly what i had in mind, but ideas are flowing immediately, the track is producing itself... let's go on with this". so, yes, this is a big point: no forcing and no obligation (this is also why i stopped using Fiverr btw). what he describes as the "feeling" of the track clicked quickly, and i took advantage of that immediately as now i'm much better at recognising it. the "hard part" was to delete completely hours of progress, realising it was wasted (if it's something really interesting, you could still save presets/midis/whatever). i think that's a big problem: sometimes it's hard for us to take a radical change (when the track needs it), so we get stuck with an "inferior" version, or something we are not quite happy with it (and the chain keeps going as we add more elements or we make progress).
i guess another "advantage" i have in making a track i'm happy with in such a short time is that i don't really obsess over technical details; i try to keep everything simple in that regard. i stopped applying EQ/Comp. everywhere and i got better at mixing and getting a feeling over the years. the result? this track is quite nice to hear even on the phone!
about the previous goa track: again, i was just having fun. i'm not saying i was laughing throughout, but the process was very enjoyable. then, of course, the hard part was automating and mixing it a bit to bring it a proper final result, but that's the boring technical part and everybody at this point knows how to do that, it just takes hard work and some time; the hardest part is coming up with the idea; or rather, "shaping" the idea into the world.

And every track you finish is a step toward making the next one better.Β ***This is a point I've believed in since I started with a cracked fruity loops many years ago (now on Ableton); i've made many, many tracks, with ups and downs; some of them were absolute dogsh1t, but it's thanks to these tracks that i am now at a point where i can say i am much better at arranging, producing, and so on and so forth. as we've all talked about, finishing tracks is a skill on its own and needs to be practised. as Aymat once told me, even uploading it and sharing it is part of the process. it makes it feel like a finished product.
i do not want to sound pompous or conceited with this post. i just want to share that what Aymat is sharing here areΒ *artistical, universal truthsΒ *that are valid not only for music, but for many art forms. without getting philosophical or into other realms we're not concerned about at the moment, i have to say understanding this kind of stuff is a big undertaking. but the beauty of it is that we don't really need to understand it, we just have to recognise it and take advantage of it.

thank you Joel, glad you enjoyed it. i had not thought of sending it to anybody, simply because i wasn't sure of how well it sounded, and mainly because it's very "old sounding": nowadays, nobody is really making anything like this. however, after reading your post, i sent a .wav to some people called "suntrip records" (one of the first results after searching "goa trance labels"), more out of curiosity than anything. i felt quite inspired by all the good words (from you, a few on AS, friends) and i spent the last two days making another track and it came out naturally, some kind of trance/techno/ambient, a bit weird. want to do a second mix and then post it; incredible the motivation and strength you have when you are "in the flow/in the zone".
i'm glad you're keeping yourself busy with the projects. i'm also glad to hear the other guys are working on their traxx. do you feel they're applying your tips/guidelines? i suppose each one is different so the method has different ways to be injected...
no worries about paypal mate ahah. maybe when we reach a hundred euros we'll see! for now, feel free to use the money to promote/do whatever. i'm being truthful here; well, first of all, i don't really need it at the moment; secondly, as i've expressed it before, i mainly make music for the passion of creating and sharing something. it's ok getting paid, but it's not the main goal. when i can buy a full carton of cigarettes with it let me know! (around 55β¬ :D)

quite happy with the results. got lost a few times during the meat of the production, but i tried to keep a level-headed attitude. the main hook sound is not exactly as i envisioned it, but it was one of the first things that i made and little by little i got used to it, so i decided not to go back and change it.
checked this a few days ago. some heavy tracks in there for sure. the rumble/kick has always been hard for me, i'm never sure i'm doing it right because, well, in headphones or speakers is not the same as a huge system with a subwoofer. thanks for sharing
currently making some goa and applied those "no-fuss" tips. spent a whole day messing around and did nothing, then went back and kept only the elements that were the "core" of the tracks. i'm actually surprised because maybe i might finally end up doing something that resembles early goa, a goal i've always wanted to accomplish!

I didn't even like music when I was a kid to be honest. Growing up, I discovered some very early hands-up tracks and I figured I'd try to understand how they were made. I've always been a very creative person, not only in music, but in many fields. I like to create and share; I usually have lots of ideas. In any case, I found an old disc called "Rave Mission Vol. I" that my brother had in his room. I quickly fell in love and was extremely fascinated with early 90s hard trance, acid and so on and so forth. Since then, I have been "dealing" with music for twenty years now. It was very boring at first because it was very hard for me, somebody with zero musical backgrounds, to understand how to make a proper track. Little by little, I learnt many things, from theory to the technical side of things. Looking back at everything I've made, I am quite proud of myself.
I have had several aliases and names all around the web. I used to try to force myself to release in the past, but that never worked. Right now, whenever I feel like I have some inspiration, a burst of energy or an idea, I just make the core of the track (usually in less than a day or two). The rest is just hard work making sure it sounds acceptable. When I'm finished, I try not to go back to it and simply upload to You Tube or whatever project/website. This EP is quite different because of how Joel has been structuring things. It's definitely more professional and I consider myself no more than a hobbyist, so it's a little bit scary.
Having weekly talks with Joel was not only inspiring bu also helpful. Working on your own is obviously different and each one has their own process. However, when you have another pair of ears, and in this case quite experienced ears, you'll feel things starting to fall into place. You are more motivated. Not pressured, mind you; it simply felt as if I was with a friend in my bedroom and we were hanging out while working. So, sharing, which is always a positive point.
More than a shift, a realisation that what I had been doing in the past was actually the "right way". I agree with most concepts that Joel explained but I could never put them into words. He is quite smart when it comes to this, and he helped me realise a few key things about my own approach. I believe that the sessions might be of incredible value to people that may feel lost or wandering around without a clear goal.
Talking with Joel made me believe even more that making music should be a fun process. I think this is the main takeaway. Sure, it sounds simple, laughable even. However, not many people actually realise what this means. When the process is fun and you put feel into it, the rest of the track will follow along, as if the track had a soul of its own. It's very hard to explain and it's been refreshing talking with him about it. Do not discard this aspect of music: while the technical side, arrangement, sounds and so on are extremely important, they all come from the same foundations.
To whoever is reading this, well, first of all thanks from me and Latent Forms. Secondly, if you are starting out as a producer, your tracks may be ugly, unfun, uninteresting: but those are the ones that make you learn for the next ones. Starting new tracks without finishing them is not a great habit. If you have fun while creating something, that piece of art will reflect that. My future-self is very unpredictable, maybe I might release some techno, maybe some ambient, who knows. I try to go with the flow, and many aspects of my life influence my creativity and mood!
