Hi Val, we're at the home stretch! 😆

Great talk yesterday! Just want to go over our discussion and what we have left to do before the release. Couple of things:

The big one is promotion. Ideally Id like to have your bandcamp page set up and connected with Latent Forms bandcamp page so we can promote the release in tandem. I understand the need for aliases and we should be able to have any aliases connected to one account that you manage. I'll have this info out to you shortly so you can have it set up and ready before the release. As I said earlier, I'll be making a post on Audiosex to help promote the release and you should definitely post it on your youtube. If you like I can provide thumbnail artwork for your yt post or if youd like to create a version for the release yourself. Ideally it would be great to have some form of cta on the thumbnail or description that says something like "Available at..." so that it links to the release on the Latent Forms bandcamp page. Like I said before, the point of all this is that we only get one shot at promoting the release so we want to have as much impact and eyes on it.

One thing I wanted to mention is that promoting is part of the process of releasing music. What I have found is that the more you believe in what you're doing, the more convinced your listeners are that you care about your music. If you don't care about your music, no one else will. That is SO important. YOU have to be your own cheerleader which can be a very difficult thing to do if you're not used to advocating for your music. Like all things, there is an extreme side to this that runs the risk of coming off like an attention-whore, but thats not what you want  😆 You want to strike a balance where you promote but not so much that people get sick of you. A simple post in a few key places where you know your music is appreciated is perfect. Cataloguing your releases as well so that when you start to build a following, people can see your work in one place and it makes it easier for them to browse, listen and support. Theres also additional things like follow-up replies to a post that touch on the success of the release (maybe it was played in a mix or promoted on a chart, etc) so that it can generate additional interest post-release. Theres also download codes which you can give out for free downloads as well and these are great for helping build up a following and promoting future releases to more listeners.

Promoting is completely different from making music, but in a lot of ways easier once you start understanding how it works, then it just becomes part of the process. But the more consistent you are at doing it, the more you'll be able to build on the work you've done. It's not difficult, it's just about consistency.

Can't I just use the cover you sent me for the picture on You Tube?

Sure, as soon as I'll upload, I'll send it to a few people I know IRL and in Italy. But again, as I said in the talk, I'm not really big into promotion. Usually, I just upload it, send it to a few friends, sometimes post it on ASex, and that's it. It's very hard to promote, especially in this day and age where the quantity of music made daily is absurd. And yes, of course, I'll add the link to Latent Forms' Bandcamp.

True! I'll see what I can do 🙂

Yes absolute you can use the image for the release!

Don't worry too much about the promotional part, what you just posted is exactly the right approach. Sharing it with people you know is the perfect way to build an organic following. So literally its just doing that and overtime it compounds. What you dont want to do is just upload and hope for the best, that NEVER works. So you definitely have the right approach already and thats great!
