Session #4 Notes!

@samuraitracks
Hi Val, great session today!
Just to touch on what we talked about releasing with the label ... again, it's not obligated, but it is encouraged. Whether that's through Latent Forms or another label, that's up to you.
That said, I'd love for you to release through Latent Forms, because the whole point of the sessions is to experience the full arc ... starting a track, finishing it, and actually putting it out into the world. Thats something most producers never get a chance to do but when it happens, theres a sense of accomplishment and legitimacy that does something to you psychologically and it keeps you creating. You'll start to pull from that and it feeds into the next track.
My main goal is to help every producer who comes through these sessions finish music but also go beyond that if they want to. I'd like everyone who does these sessions to treat this process as something that matters. Because your music is important and it matters. It deserves to exist and be recognized, regardless of how many people hear it. I'm telling you man, the first time you release a track and get a follower, a compliment, or someone buys your track ... it'll change you in such a positive way as a producer. I can't express that enough.
I'm really excited to hear and mix your track. Send it over when you're ready! Have a great weekend! - Joel

Hey!
Of course, there'll be no problem about releasing through Latent Forms. No worries at all. The only thing is, as I said, I'd like to put it on my Youtube channel as well but not because of any specific reason, it's simply because it has become kind of an archive at this point. (Actually, to be honest, it's not really that important)
I'm attaching the zip file containing all individual tracks + the final sum of all tracks. No return or send stuff. For now, it's only the first mix, but I think I can finish the second mix as well because I quite like how it's turning out. But that's for another time.

Awesome! By the way, there's no problem at all posting on youtube or wherever you like. In fact, I encourage that because the more eyes on your music the better. And believe me, I understand about archiving because I'm the same way. Also, it's your music, you own the rights and can do whatever you want with it. That's why I posted that info in the Latent Forms page. I want to keep this as simple as possible for everyone.
Just downloaded the zip file, will start working on it tomorrow. I FINALLY got my soundcard working so I'm all set! 🤪
Let's catch up this week! - JK

Might as well share this one as well. I feel like it could be a good "B-side"... an accompanying track for the other one. Just applied a limiter (not pushing it too hard) because I want to listen to it during the following days, so I'd like to do as close as possible to the final result. Sharing the mp3 (and not .wav or anything else) because still undecided if there's something else to modify, but let me tell you, I'm quite liking how it turned out.

Thanks, talk to u soon -

Hi Joel, the link works for me... that's weird!
I'll upload everything somewhere else, wait. Since zippyshare died, I still haven't found a good alternative to quick upload with no signing up! Let me know if you got it
PS: I scheduled for Saturday 1700 to 1800, but we can change to 18 or 19 starting time if there are any problems.

Convenient file sharing. Registration is not required. Large files are supported.

@samuraitracks
Hi Val, I just checked it again, it works! Not sure why it didn't this morning though, that was weird lol
DUDE wtf... this mix is SSSIIICCCKK!!!! When that 303 comes OMG!! I almost kicked my kid down a flight of stairs... that track goes HARD!!!
I'm just gonna say it, this EP is going to be SPECIAL...fuck yeah Val, that's what I'm talking about!!!
I started mastering the 134mix today and setting up the second mix, should have both done by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. I'll shoot those over to you as soon as they're ready! - J

Thanks for the kind words, Joel

I was really inspired yeah. As we said, it came in flowing naturally piece by piece. Had to remove a full drone/pad that I thought didn't add much (and then only used it differently in only a few places), and even another whole sound. Quite happy with how it came out honestly. Though I didn't know you were going to work on it. The only thing I applied on the master was an ozone limiter, with only very few db's on the kick. I don't think it makes a huge difference, but it was mainly to stabilise the volume.
Anyway thanks a lot for this! If you got names for the mixes, feel free to go ahead and choose. I was thinking: Malfunction Mix for the 134 one with the siren; Atmosphere/Static Atmosphere Mix for the second one; "static" because it's more progressive, there are less elements, and I believe it's slightly more repetitive than the other. Just a few thoughts !

@samuraitracks
Val, I have to say, out of the 5 producers I've worked with so far, you are the one that has really REALLY got it. I think part of that is you're letting yourself trust the process. You even said something just now that tells me you're there... "Had to remove a full drone/pad that I thought didn't add much". That's what I'm talking about, you're trusting yourself enough to feel your way through the track, and know when something doesn't feel right or add to it. Its such a tough thing to do for so many producers and you're letting the track tell you what it needs. Pat yourself on the back my man, thats HUGE!
️ As far as naming the tracks, I'll let you decide that. Whatever you feel works best is perfect. Btw, I'm only working on the 134mix today, just want your thoughts on the final mix and make sure you're happy with it before we do the Emergency landing on next. Also, I want to talk to you a bit about the artwork in our next session. I have some thoughts and ideas so we can coordinate with the final release.
Dude, I'm so proud of the work you've done. Seriously, it brings absolute joy to me to hear these tracks. You put in the work and I can hear it, they sound AMAZING!
